When I moved to Las Cruces in 2006, I knew I had to get started on my new career as soon as possible. It took a while to find the perfect full time employment at NMSU, so, in the meantime, I started my own web design business. Duskrider Design was born, and I started offering my services in Deming, Las Cruces, and the surrounding area.
I eventually did land a great career at NMSU, but that didn’t stop me from continuing to serve clients at Duskrider Design in my off time. NMSU isn’t a business, so I have no concerns about competing for web design clients with my employer, and that creates a perfect opportunity to do what I love for work during the day and for my own clients at night and on the weekends.
Duskrider Design also gives me the opportunity to develop my skills as a small business person in regards to advertising, client relationships, contractual agreements, and business finance. While none of these things are what I would call complicated for a sole proprietorship my myself, they can still pose challenges… especially to someone with a programming degree rather than a business degree!
